Short Bio

Trained in computer science, information systems and operations research in Germany, I work at the interface between information systems security and economic theories.

After research visits to Stanford University and Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia, I received a doctorate in information systems from the RWTH Aachen University with a thesis on component-based software engineering and earned a post-doctorate degree ( habilitation/venia legendi) at the RWTH Aachen University with a thesis on the analysis and design of countermeasures against e-mail spam. Since May 2007 I hold a position as Privatdozent/Assistant Professor at the Institute of Business Information Systems, RWTH Aachen University. From September 2008 to August 2009, I joined the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) at Berkeley (USA), sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Starting in October 2009, I will be on leave at the University of Freiburg, where I will hold a position as temporary professor (Vertretungsprofessor) of Information Systems Research.

My fields of interest cover technical and economic issues of information and communication (systems) security, electronic business, and Internet voting.
